The city of Liverpool is a World Heritage Site, granted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and at its heart lies the famous Liverpool waterfront. During the 19th and early 20th centuries Britain was at its most powerful and Liverpool was its greatest commercial port. Many buildings in the city demonstrated this global importance and seen here are the most famous of all – the Three Graces, which includes the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the former offices of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. Now, alongside its proud past, Liverpool has a bright future as a modern cosmopolitan and premier European city with a world-beating reputation, having won the prestigious European Capital of Culture for 2008.
